At the Nest, we believe that women are more than just a uterus, and we provide more than just a pap smear. We take a thorough health history and do a complete physical exam. We ask about your sleep, exercise, diet, and lifestyle habits because we know how important those issues are to your overall health. We screen for relationship problems and provide counseling referrals when needed. Here is a list of the types of preventative care/wellness visits that we offer:

Yearly exams (in which the whole hour is spent with the provider) for girls and women aged 13-64

Individualized cancer and other genetic screening options based on family history and risk factors

Menopause and perimenopause counseling and treatment

PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) screening and counseling

Sexual health visits for complaints of pain, low libido, anorgasmia, or for STI-screening.

Routine (and non-routine) lab tests, mammograms, and pap smears ordered

Pre-conception counseling, basic fertility counseling, and lab tests

Dietary and/or weight loss counseling, with referrals to Registered Dieticians as needed

Full prescriptive authority in Alaska, for medication management (within CNM scope of practice)

Same-day/short-notice problem-focused visits for common and pressing GYN complaints, such as yeast, BV, or UTIs

Same-day/short-notice visits for testing and treatment for communicable illnesses such as Strep throat, Influenza, Covid-19, etc
-
Routine vaccinations, including flu, Sars-CoV-2, and TDAP, as well as pre-employment TB tests

Complete maternity care, including prenatal, delivery, and postpartum

Under the Affordable Care Act (aka “Obamacare”), most plans cover contraceptive visits, devices, and prescriptions in full, not subject to deductible or cost-share. We schedule ample time for our contraception counseling visits to help you find the right method for your body, lifestyle, and preferences. We perform removals of the above-mentioned devices as well, and have the tools and experience to do removals of IUDs where the string is absent as well.
We Can Be Your "Medical Home"
We are always happy to see women for various health concerns, even some that are more of a family practice nature. Many specialists require referrals from a primary care, as do physical therapists, so starting in a setting like this makes sense for most women who do not have known major medical conditions.

In a way similar to a Naturopathic Doctor, our Nurse Practitioners spend adequate time taking detailed health and family histories, and delving into your lifestyle, diet, relationships, work, stress, and other factors that may be contributing to your health issues. We can see women for some hard-to-pin-down problems, and help figure out some likely causes are, and the next best steps to take – problems like insomnia, fatigue, pelvic and abdominal pain, headaches, and so on. As Nurse Practitioners and midwives, we are open to many different models of care, and we offer clients possible solutions from a broad array of choices from both Western and Eastern medicine traditions.

Though we are not a walk-in clinic or urgent care, we always endeavor to see our established clients same day or next day for pressing matters. We are happy to help on a routine or urgent (when appropriate) basis with:
